HP’s MediaSmart server is the kind of networked storage appliance that runs on Windows Home server and they’ve just added two new models into this line, the EX485 and EX487.

The two new models come with a couple of improvements including the much better usability with the Apple’s Time Machine and also compatibility with Mac OS in general, although there is still a need for a PC for configuring it.

It’s also been made capable of saving data online, which is currently capable of saving its data to Amazon’s online storage service, S3. There will most probably be more online services to be supported in the future versions of the MediaSmart servers.

Other than the software improvements, the hardware of the new models also come with some improvements such as they now run on a 2.0Ghz Celeron with 2GB of RAM. Making them fast enough to convert music files on the fly for streaming tunes over the web.
