Most of our fellow bloggers use Wordpress as their main blogging platform. Whether you’re on wordpress.com or you host it yourself at your own hosting, Wordpress is being used for huge tons of blogs over the blogosphere.

According to Wordpress.com, they currently host over 4.5 million blogs, while 3.2 million have been downloaded and self-hosted by the bloggers themselves. So, there is no argument that Wordpress is the most popular blogging platform over the blogosphere.

Just put aside how popular Wordpress is, as what I wanna tell you is how to make your Wordpress-powered blog to be compatible with the browser of Internet-capable mobile phones, especially your iPhone 3G.

In order to make your wordpress blog to be compatible with your iPhone’s browser, you have to get the Wordpress’ plugin – WPtouch, which can be downloaded here. And you just need the following three simple steps to get it done.

Step 1
Download it, unpack, and then upload it to your wordpress’ “wp-content/plugins” folder as usual like other plugins that you’ve ever installed. Please note you must have at least Wordpress version 2.3 or above in order for this plugin to work.

Step 2
Similar to other Wordpress’ plugins, after you’ve uploaded into the “/wp-content/plugins/” folder, you’ll be able to see it listed in the plugins as shown above. Just activate it as usual. After it’s activated, now you’ve got a theme on your wordpress that is iPhone/iPod touch compatible. And one more step you need to get it fully working as follows.

Step 3
The final step here is to make some preferences of your WPTouch plugin to work better with your blog. Clicking into “Settings->WPTouch” in your administrative panel, to bring up the preferences page to set how the plugin to serve your iPhone-ready blog.

There are a few sections here such as the first section, Optimization & Template Options, allows you to enable or disable AJAX controls (Smoother, less page refresh for blog commenting, post submissions and page loading etc.), enable Gravatars or allow the submissions of comments on your blog pages (NOT blog posts).

The next section will be setting the “Header Style” to be presented to the iPhone, such as the blog name, the header background, text, border colors. You’ll also be able to configure many other options within the WPtouch interface including post listing options (Whether to post meta items beneath each blog post), available icons, default menu items and other plugin support for the WPtouch. After you’ve set all the preferences, now your Wordpress blog is now ready to be viewed by all iPhone users.
