Mathmos Wind lights are used to build a 15-meter tower that comes with glowing skin made of these tiny wind-powered lights. It’s called Aeolian Tower and it’s in London.
These tiny lights do not need batteries or external power. As each is equipped with a wind turbine that generates electricity to light up itself when wind brushes through it. Each wind light is about 8-inch tall, equipped with a 2.4 inch propeller to power a pair of bright red or blue LEDs.

Since the light source is LED, the wind-generated power is sufficient to keep it brightly lit. The mentioned Aeolian Tower is made of 1200 of these miniature Wind Lights which illuminate when the winds blow in over the River Thames. It’s a project of Jason Bruges Studio, as part of onedotzero adventures in motion festival at the BFI. And you can find the glowing tower displayed in front of BFI Southbank at the Waterloo Bridge from November 13th through 16th. If you’re interested in the Wind Light, you also get it from Mathmos which each costs $18 USD only.
