It’s a rumor floating around which says that Asus is preparing a laptop that comes with all touchscreen. As shown in the picture, it doesn’t have a physical QWERTY, it’s replaced by a touch screen instead.
This Asus laptop will have the usual screen and also the keyboard is now replaced by a touchscreen which needs some virtual keyboard software to handle the users’ inputs. This screen-only laptop is like the OLPC 2.0 which might ship in the first quater of 2009 if the source is reliable. And it would most likely run the Windows 7 as the operating system.
Asus has reportedly not yet decided what the size of this laptop. Since it comes with all screens, it’ll burn lots of battery power. It’s somehow unlikely that this laptop would run Windows 7 as Microsoft is preparig this new OS for the year of 2010. There is also a need for Asus to roll out some SDK so other developers could come out with better virtual keyboard software to suit fuzzy users. This concept laotop has been shown at Computex 2008.
Besides, Asus is also preparing a touchscreen-only EEE PC. And the company will likely use either 12.1 inch or 11.6-inch touchscreen panel developed by AU Optronics (AUO) or Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO).
