SanDisk has proposed their new idea of having music stored on a microSD card or slotMusic and each album is expected to sell at about $7-$10. Our storage devices are getting smaller and smaller these days. It shouldn’t be too much surprise having music stored on a microSD card after they’ve done it in a USB stick.
Storing music on microSD card seems to be able to capture much wider market. As anyone who drops by a store that sells the music microSD cards, will pick up a few as they’re so tiny and pretty easy to carry around and some more they can be played back right away on the mobile phone/PDA/PMP (with microSD slot) that is inside their pockets.
Music on microSD card or slotMusic will include DRM-free MP3 tracks, which are typically encoded at 320kbps that are high-quality music. The music on microSD cards will come in a 1GB storage and each card will come included with a tiny USB adapter which is for the convenience of letting you backup the music to your computer or transfer to other storage media. And of course, you can then overwrite the card with other music once you’ve got fed up listening to those tracks originally loaded on it.
The main problem is music stored those tiny cards tend to get misplaced by the forgetful geeks. But to the music seller it’ll be a plus, as once you’ve lost a slotMusic you’ll probably drop by the store the next hours to buy another one.
Music on a tiny microSD card wouldn’t sound so nice for giving it as a gift to others. The music on a CD is the more preferred gift due to the size, and it definitely looks nicer once wrapped in a gift wrapper. Lets say giving it as a birthday gift.
The slotMusic will be available in various stores in the States such as Walmart and BestBuy starting next year. And check out more on slotMusic
