There might be some other tiny computers that are smaller than the Space Cube. But, in my memory, it seems to be the smallest that I’ve ever seen.
The Space Cube is a cubic device, which is a fully functional computer that is sized just like an apple. Look at the Space Cube in the picture, how it’s compared side by side with an apple. The Space Cube comes with lots of ports. Inside the cube, you’ll find a a 300MHz processor, 64MB of DDR RAM and it doesn’t have hard disk drive. The only permanent storage is a 1GB Compact FlashCard.
With the very tiny size of RAM, if you’re only able to use it to open Notepad. It surely fails to run today’s memory-hungry applications. The Space Cube is equipped with lots of ports which allow you to hook up to external devices and extend its connectivities. You’ll find SP Outs, Mic Ins, Ethernet ports, VGA support, USB port, speaker plug and more on this little cubic computer.
There is even a “Space Wire” port, which seems like a proprietary stuff which is to fit the NASA/ESA only. Despite the super tiny size, it carries a huge price tag of $2800. The Space Cube is meant for use in the space, which it acts pretty much like a middle man to be hooked up with various sensors and processing units, while it’s in the space craft.
