We’ve seen couple of BCIs (Brain-computer interfaces) before, which were still in their prototype stage. I always thought that BCIs would not surface in the market in few years’ time, which it’d need much longer time for the fine-tuning to get to a market-ready product.
In fact, I was wrong. OCZ technology has now got a ready BCI product, the Neural Impulse Actuator, which is the first commercially available BCI for the PC gamers. The device allows gamers to use their mind to control those game actions, bypassing the needs of using mouse and keyboards or other joysticks for controlling game plays on PC.
The device also comes with intelligent software that assigns commands easily and it adjusts itself according to the user’s physiology and personal preferences. You can map each Actuator’s signal to each keystroke on your keyboard or button of your mouse. This allows gamers to have freedom of movements such as jump, run and fire faster, which brings more excitement to game plays.
The Actuator converts EEG (electroencephalograph) signals into specified keystrokes, which allows it to be used with any software. It comes with a USB 2.0 interface and a headband. Too bad, the device is only available in Japan for now, which carries a price tag of $230.
