Micro microscope to be used in cellphone, great for detecting germs on the go

Micro-sized microscope inside cellphone
A super tiny microscope has been developed by some researchers at California Institute of Technology, which is meant to be used inside a cellphone. The micro microscope embedded in a cellphone will make it handy to let users detect germs or bacterias, while they’re on the go.

The super tiny microscope is claimed to have high magnification power which can zoom in any surfaces to check out if there are germs on it. The microscope is also great for implanting inside human body due to its small size. This microscope is made by combining the power of computer technology and microfluidic technology, which gives optimum performance despite its super tiny size.

This tiny microscope has NO lenses or any other optical elements, which are the basic need for a microscopes since its appearance in 1500s. The absence of lenses in this micro microscope also makes it price lower than average, which costs only $10 each for mass production.

The tiny microscope is made up of three layers. The top layer is made of microfluidic channel, the second layer is the metal coating and the last is a CCS sensor. There are tiny holes on the metal coating, which each is one-millionth of a meter in diameter, which are in coordination with the pixels on the CCD array. The microfluidic layer either carries a liquid sample such as blood or water.
