A new clamshell phone, SO706i, from Sony Ericsson is coming its way to hit Japan tomorrow. It’s another move of Sony to produce great cellphones for the Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo. Of course, this is due to the fact that Sony is in Japan. So every nice cellphone from them will be made for the Japan first.
The SO706i cellphone features a clamshell design, which boasts a 2.8 inch TFT screen with 262K colors and a resolution of 240×427 pixels for the internal display. For the external display, it’s got couple of LEDs which indicate you the coming calls, messages etc. The phone also features a 2-megapixel camera, which is capable of taking both pictures and videos, and equipped with auto-focus function.
Up to here, I don’t find the features of the Sony SO706i are any more special than others’. Some other features include memory expansion via microSD cards which allows maximum capacity of 2GB. And it is capable of mobile TV, advanced e-mail and web. For the Internet software, it supports Flash Lite 3.0, Google Maps and has made the default search interface to use the Google search.
The phone measures 105×49×13.4mm, and weighs 98 grams. The phone gives a 3.6 hours of talk time, 290 hours of standby-time, and can stand up to 1.67 hours while watching mobile TV on it. As mentioned, this phone will hit Japan on July 4th at NTT DoCoMo shops and will retail for about $380.
