The highly intuitive and super interactive iPhone touchscreen has pulled many others striving to develop cool software applications for the iPhone. The touchscreen of an iPhone also makes it best to be used as a remote control. Lets say to control almost everything including lighting, home theater and some other appliances in the kitchen etc.
Here comes another cool software app for the iPhone and also the iPod Touch, the AirRemote, which allows you to use the iPhone or iPod Touch to control almost everything in your house remotely. The AirRemote app doesn’t work alone, it needs another piece of hardware (and of course your iPhone) to work with it in order to function as a universal remote for your home.
The hardware is Global Cache GC-100 Network Adapter, which costs you around $150 that should work with the AirRemote app when it comes out in the Apple App Store on July 11th this year. The AirRemote app has been designed to work with a few home automation systems such as AMX and Crestron. Which are the kind of home automation systems that allow users who own a high-tech home to operate those lightings, security, audio/video, thermostats, as long as they’re hooked up to these home-auto systems.
The AirRemote app also adds a nifty feature to CoverFlow on the iPhone or iPod Touch, which it links all the cover art to the web to retrieve more information about each particular song etc. Everything sounds so cool, but the AirRemote app isn’t free. It needs you to pay $100 to get it from App Store.
The price of the combination, AirRemote+Network Adapter+iPhone will sound pretty high for some average people. But if you own an high-tech home that uses any of the mentioned home automation systems, then the price of the combination should just take a very little fraction from you that you wouldn’t care at all.
