3G iPhone is now official and with 50% price cut from the first-gen iPhone

June 9th, 2008 by ketyung

3G iPhone is official
The 3G iPhone is “real” now no more being rumored again. It’s been officially announced for the release date. The 3G iPhone have got many speculations before, and now it seems to be kind of close to those speculations. Yeah, it supports the high-speed HSDPA or 3G wireless connectivity, comes with built-in GPS, and Apple seems to have made a substantial price cut for it.

Overall, the 3G iPhone looks very much like the original iPhone. But with slight modification of its case. Which it’s now slightly thicker, about a fraction of an inch thicker now. This is usually the case when a cellphone gets its 3G version, it’ll be slightly bulkier than the non-3G version. You’ll have two choices of the plastic back of this 3G iPhone, which either comes in white or black.

Of course, the 3G iPhone supports the HSDPA or UMTS high speed Internet connectivities, which gives more than double the data transfer speed of what EDGE can provide. Besides, the 3G iPhone also supports the AGPS (Assisted GPS) technology, which makes use of a whole bunch of satellites, cell towers and WiFi data to guide you with the most precise directions to get to your destinations.

The 3G iPhone also supports the iPhone AppStore, which is the online apps download service provided by Apple that lets you download tons of software applications for the iPhone. You can download either via both the phone networks (3G) for files less than 10MB or via WiFi for files more than 10MB. This direct download gives the extra handiness that there isn’t need anymore to sync up iTunes to get new software onto your iPhone.

The Apple AppStore also provides a free upgrade to iPhone V2.0 software to the existing first-gen iPhone, provided it’s not yet been jailbroken. But iPod Touch users will need to pay $9.99 for the same upgrade of the software. This new software update also adds Exchange support, contact search, improved e-mail management etc. Anyway, there seems to have no date confirmed yet when the V2.0 software will be available for current iPhone owners.

Although everyone is now pretty excited about the iPhone 3G, but unfortunately, it doesn’t get shipped immediately today. They’ll be in stores around the globe on July 11th, 2008. The great news is there is almost 50% price cut, which the 3G iPhone costs you retail for $399 $199 (8GB) and $499 $299 (16GB).
