Elektrobit Windows-Mobile-based dual cellular and satellite phone to come in 2009

Elektrobit satellite and cellphone in one, runs Windows mobile 6.1 Pro, to roll out in 2009
Elektrobit is planning for a dual cellular and satellite phone that will run Windows mobile as the operating system. And the phone is planned to roll out in 2009.

You can get hooked up to a cellular network while you’re in areas that have cellular coverage. It can also function as a satellite phone while you’re lost in a jungle or on a remote island, so you can communicate with the outside world. In fact, it’s a phone that lets you make calls at every corner of the world.

The Elektrobit satellite/cell phone looks like a Motorola Q. Most satellite phones come with an antenna for best reception of satellite signal. But the Elektrobit device doesn’t come with one, making it to look just like an ordinary Windows mobile smart cellphone.

The Elektrobit phone is pretty slim which measures 4.7 x 2.5 x .8″ HWD and pretty light. When functioning as a cellphone it supports the high-speed HSDPA and is to run Windows Mobile 6.1 professional as the OS. The phone is equipped with a touchscreen.

For the satellite network, it’s planned to be hooked up to an upcoming satellite network being launched next year by Terrestar across North America.

At this stage, the phone still remains as a concept. Some other features to be included in its plan will be Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, a MicroSD slot, a 3-megapixel camera and voice controls. The concept is definitely cool, as it’ll be the only super handy phone that works like a normal smart phone, which lets you make calls wherever you’re. Elektrobit claims that they’ll make it cost-competitive, highly affordable to most adventurous users who like to explore the remote islands and jungles.
