The post USB magic jack posted on TechChee last Christmas has been very hot and spurred up almost 300 comments. The magic jack has got many attentions, as it offers very cheap calls and lets you make calls over the US by using a home telephone, and you pay for only $39.99 per year. But the USB magic jack seems to have got some non-tech-savvy guys with lots of problems of getting it to work on their computers.
But now, another product, CuPhone “Echo Free” USB phone adapter, which works with close similarity to the USB magic jack and is definitely worth of your try. It also allows you to hook up a home telephone or regular phone to it, and lets you make Skype VOIP calls using the home telephone.
The CuPhone “Echo Free” USB phone adapter comes with two RJ11 ports for connecting to a wall jack and a standard telephone. On the other end is a USB port that lets you hook up to your computer’s USB port. And all this setup lets you accept both landline and Skype VOIP calls from the same phone – lets say your home phone. Since it lets you use your home telephone to make VOIP calls, meaning that the computer that this adapter is connected to, must have an Internet broadband connection. The entire concept is pretty straightforward as shown in the diagram below.
The CuPhone USB phone adapter has even more functions such as letting you to route incoming Skype calls to your cellphone or any pre-specified number and supports three-way conferencing. But it seems to be lacking some common functions found in other similar products such as call waiting and switching between landline and Skype calls. The CuPhone adapter is said to work for all platforms, including Mac and Linux and it’s compatible with Skype, Msn, Xlite, Delta3, Net2Phone, VoIPBuster,Dialpad etc.

All calls made through the CuPhone adapter are Skype calls, which are free. And you can even make long-distant calls via the CuPhone’s PPG network to USA, Europe, ASIA, South America…land line. There are many goodies with this adapter, especially the free calls and you just need to spend $34 (limited time offer) to get this gadget.

Let me put it to you this way. I sell Magic Jack internationally and they dont even speak English and they can get it to work. Point is other than registering with the pre-automated screen that pops up when you first plug magic jack into the usb port, everyting is automatic and you just make calls. The product installs the necessary software it needs to run. As far a Voip or CU-phone Im not so sure its this easy. I mean you have to plug the line into the wall and then use another phone to make calls. Magic Jack you dont have to use a phone jack. This comes in handy when on business travelling. As far as buying them of course you can just goto the website and email the company. Thats what I did and thats why Im selling them. Good Luck.

What’s the point if you need a regular wall phone jack? Surely VoIP uses the internet connection.
Any features are mentioned are already provided by Skype.
Am I missing something.

Fact: I purchased CUPhone in 2005 for $400 – the enitre system – 2 USB adapters and 2 PPG Gateways. Their system worked great.
Fact: I dumped it for Vonage as Vonage served my purpose better in 2006.
Fact: TigerJet is the CHIPSET that was used by CUPhone. Same chipset is used in MajicJack and MajicJack just aquired that company.
Fact: SJPhone’s softphone code is used by MajigJack along with other thousand-million VOIP softphones like Vonage, etc, OneSuite.com, etc. MajicJack also acquired SJPhone also.
Fact: CUPhone tried to keep tabs on too many things. Gateway, USB Adapter, Skype integration, blah..blah..blah. If CUPhone took their head out of their ass and hired good engineers, lawers and sales force just to make the USB adaptaer work and market like MajicJack, they would have been number one provider of this, not MajicJack.
Fiction: What if MajicJack now owns CUPhone also? Or CUPhone’s previous employess are now at MajicJack? Or CPPhone owns MajicJack? Its very possible. Unless someone from CUPhone posts here otherwise.

Nevermind all those facts….just did some more googling….www.tjnet.com was the “backend” company of CUPhone front…..same people….so essentially looks like CUPhone is now owned by MajicJack…..

You are right. For those who want to go back in history and see CUPhone’s website, see the link below. I need to get a hold of this adapter for my skype unlimited calls linked up for my home phone. I want to make sure it includes the TigerJet chip. I don’t all the other chips sets out there.
