RIM (Research in motion) – the maker of Blackberry is trying out a new form factor for its Blackberry mobile phones. The new phone is called Kickstart, which will have a clam shell form factor instead of the traditional designs that you’ve seen with other Blackberry phones.
RIM has never had a clam shell design for any of its Blackberry phones before. Kickstart is the first one. The phone is equipped with the SureType QWERTY keyboard, and has two LCDs, one is the external which could be used for minimal information display (e.g caller ID, message alert, time and date etc) and the other is the internal, which is the usual main screen.
The Kickstart also uses Trackball similar to other Blackberry phones. And it’s also equipped with a camera, but there isn’t any detail for the number of megapixels which the camera carries. RIM seems to be planning to release the first flip phone in their series before end of the year.

Blackberry phones are well known for the great messaging feature. The QWERTY definitely gives very good tactile feedback, which is the main factor getting user to type faster, making it one of the best phones used for messaging. But I wonder a Blackberry flip phone will have any negative impact to messaging due to the much smaller QWERTY that would hinder users to type comfortably.

I am the biggest BlackBerry fan ever, but, this one just isn’t doing it for me. That is one ugly BlackBerry and it looks huge.
