After Asus has updated the Linux drivers for its Asus EEE PC, you can now watch HDTV on your Asus EEE PC.
All you need is to hook up either the Asus My Cinema U3100 Mini DVB-T or DMB-TH USB tuner to its USB port, then you can start receiving the DTV broadcasts. The DVB-T tuner is meant for European countries whereas the DMB-TH is meant for the standard backed by the Chinese authority.
A Hong Kong-based PC magazine has carried out the pre-lim test, both the driver and software work properly except H.264 software decoding was missing. So, you won’t be able to play the HDTV that is broadcast in the H.264 format. For other channels that sent over in MPEG-2 were all played back properly on the Asus EEE. The little downside is the software doesn’t come with recording function, but maybe there would be some updates later for the software that would include the recording function which would make your Asus EEE perfect as a super portable MCE.
