The Grid - the Super Fast Internet, 10,000 times faster, coming soon!

April 6th, 2008 by ketyung

Super Fast Internet - the Grid 10,000 times faster the existing Internet
The grid would be the next big thing in the Internet. In fact, it’d be a new technology or a mass of computer networks that would increase the Internet speed dramatically, which allows the download of entire feature films within a few seconds. Yes , a few seconds!

The grid is currently not yet available for the commercial sectors. But eventually it’ll become part of the networks to be used by existing telcos, network service providers and businesses.

The grid is actually a high-speed computing network project started 7 years ago, as it’s highly needed by the Cern (where Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the web in 1989) for transmitting huge amount of data generated by the analysis that involves the particle accelerator - Large Hadron Collider (LHC), used for the analysis of those foreign particles from the Universe. The grid will become the super high-speed computer networks used for capturing data from LHC at the Cern, starting this summer when they switch on the LHC to start analyzing those foreign particles.

How much more powerful and why the grid is much better than the existing Internet network? The existing Internet network has evolved till the stage having many cables and routing equipments linked together, and most of these cables and equipments are originally designed for telephony networks and therefore they all lack of the capacity for high speed data transmissions.

The grid is completely different from the existing Internet, which has been built with dedicated fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, and there is no single outdated component that would cause slow data transmission.

Once the grid has become available for commercial use, reaching the domestic or business users, desktop computing will become obsolete. As everybody will just rely on online applications, as the Internet speed will be so extremely fast then you can just store all your data and work with the online applications and you will be able to access your applications, data everywhere once you are hooked up to the Internet. So, the moves of Google and many other online application service providers are correct, and Microsoft will need to do a fast catch-up as this could possibly kill their desktop applications.

With the grid powering the Internet, many online activities will become possible such as holographic video conferencing. And the online gaming could evolve to include many thousands of people, and social networking could become the main way we communicate. These days seem to be not too far from now, as some Telcos already start introducing some pioneering technologies based on the grid.

How can one obtain stocks and get started on connecting to the grid?

I wish to be part of the new system and join you.

Where or how can one become a tester of such a vast system fo home computing.

This is going to be great for the future and I want to be part of it.

Will or does it runs with the non fiber potic system?

Can it run as fast on wireless features?

Please let me know how I can help getting started with an esciting technical advancement.

    Thanks

    - The grid is amazing. I’m really amazing on how someone is finally putting in serious time into making use of fibre optic cables that would go into this new type of network, but being able to use the existing fibre optic network in place would really save on implementation costs.
    - I can’t even fathom how the desktop computer to be obselete, but the way that it’s described would make for an increase in all areas of the computer’s future including storage and speed. The thing is, with the changes to the design of the desktop/laptop we are all used to, what changes would have to be made for the new generation of computer interation from the end-user’s standpoint?
