The mobile world seems to be talking a lot about the LTE (Long Term Evolution) at the CTIA 2008. LTE is the solution for the mobile world that enables mobile phone operators to deploy WCDMA / HSPA and LTE in all major frequency bands, including the 700MHz and 1.7 / 2.1GHz bands that are of particular importance in North America.
Among the many players in the LTE solution for North America, Sony Ericsson was also one of them at CTIA 2008. They have unveiled their plan - the M700 platform, which is dubbed as “the world’s first commercially available LTE-capable platform”.
The M700 platform of Ericsson promises a peak data transfer rate of 100Mbps down and 50Mbps up, which is definitely what we’ve been longing for, having great Internet speed on our cell phones via the wireless mobile networks.
The initial devices based on the platform will be ExpressCards, USB modems, etc. And most importantly it supports the bandwidths bandwidths between 1.4 and 20MHz and also the 700MHz bands.
But too bad, the first commercial available release will be possible only in 2009 and followed by the products based on the M700 platform are only possible in until 2010. But some sample of ASICs will be ready to roll sometime this year.
