Today’s mobile phone are having tons of applications and services. There shouldn’t be any surprise now mobile phone can aid you in several outdoor and sport activities. The Korean’s KTF (Korea Telecom Freetel) has equipped mobile phones with a virtual golf caddy program and combined with GPS services, allows golfers to aim their tee-shots better.
The program on the phone allows the user to measure the distance from the tee box to their current positions or from their current positions to the cup. The program also carries the geographic information of some 250 golf courses in Korea. And all the information is transmitted in real time using satellite. The company claims the system has a 5-meter accuracy range in most cases. It also shows the location of fairways, greens, sand bunkers and water hazards. The company plans to roll out only two models of their phones with the virtual golf program.
The company also has the intention to roll the system and service to other countries such as China and Philippines, which WCDMA phones are popular and they’re the destination outside of Korea, which are most frequented by Korean golfers.
