AirLive AirMedia 3000 streams YouTube’s video directly to your high def television!
Here comes a very interesting device, AirMedia 3000, launched by AirLive, which allows you to stream video directly from Internet to your HDTV. AirMedia 3000 is dubbed as “wireless multimedia server”, which is basically a box equipped with WiFi connection. And this box can be plugged directly to your TV to stream content either from your home computer and also the Internet.

The interesting part of this device is it is able to extract and download the flash video content (.flv file) from those online video websites such as YouTube.

Normally, YouTube’s video clip is embedded as a Flash object within the webpage. And we can only watch the video using a web browser on your computer or your iPhone. Somehow this gives some limitation of the screen size. And also for those having slow Internet connection will have to wait for several times for the video to buffer.

The AirMedia 3000 allows you to watch the YouTube’s video without needing you to use the web browser. Meaning that the device is able to extract only the .flv file, download it, and stream it directly to your TV for you to watch. I think the AirMedia 3000 is just a simple WiFi-enabled device installed with software that can download and convert FLV video files from online video websites such as YouTube.

Other than this, the AirMedia 3000 is also equipped with a zoom function, which enables users to stretch the videos into full screen mode. Of course, the quality will not be improved by stretching the video, if the video is not meant for higher resolution.

Anyway, AirMedia 3000 is a great device to have if you intend to watch online video on your HDTV. But some comment that the AirMedia 3000 shall have a better design since it’ll sit next to your High Def TV in your living room. The AirMedia 3000 will be available in Q2 for a price of $50. Update: According to TGDaily, the device should cost about $50, but I was told by a rep from the company that they haven’t announced the price yet.
