This little marble cube lets you hold the entire galaxy in the palm of your hand, if you’re willing to pay the overly expensive price, which costs you around $770 or 80,000 yen. The galaxy encased inside this marble cube is actually made up of 80,000 laser rendered stars, which each of the laser rendered stars costs you a yen. This galaxy-holding cube is the design of Living World, which is known as Milky Way galaxy 3D model.
The cube was modeled after three dimentional space data culled by Eiichiro Kokubo, Assistant Professor at Japan’s National Astronomical Observatory and Osaka University’s Kato Tsunehiko. Which gives you the kind of illusion that you’re really holding the entire galaxy in your little paw!
The production of the cube was motivated by the urge of wanting to see galaxy in three dimensions. As most galaxies shown on books and encyclopedias are in two dimensions only, which are simply hard to fulfill those nerdy space geeks. So this little cube with a 3D milky way in it is the perfect gadget to get those having strong desires to learn more about the galaxy to own. Anyway the cube isn’t yet available for commercial sale, due to government stipulations governing the use of observatory data.
