Mitsumi develops haptic input device, ensures one-hand operation on mobile
There is no easy way to operate touchscreen-based mobile with one hand only. I surely know the frustration everytime when I wanna pick up or make calls on my Dopod PDA phone while driving. The industry is now striving to equip gadgets with various sensor and input device technologies, to enable them to be operatable by using one hand only. Besides, the KEYnetik, Japanese firm Mitsumi has also developed a new haptic input device, that is to be installed at the back of a headset or PMP to allow users to operate the headset by one hand only.

The input device is composed of a sheet with small protrusions, a resistance sensitive touch pad and switches. This input device is best used on touchscreen-based mobile phones. Having the input device at the back of the touchscreen-based mobile, you could just touch its back now to activate certain applications. Currently, this input device is still in its prototyping stage. As it’s still little too thick to be qualified for commercial use. And the firm hopes to reduce its thickness before kicking it out for commercial.

That thing looks like it might be awkward to use even if it was thinner. As it is now, it looks like you need two hands just to hold that brick.
