The format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray has been going around for years. Until today, the announcement of Toshiba for stopping production of HD-DVD players and recorders, has put a stop to the format war. So, the final winner of the high-def content optical discs is Blu-ray!
It’d be a good idea to rush to the market now to grab a HD DVD player to become part of your antique collections. The HD DVD was developed by Toshiba, promising consumers accessing of high-quality, high-def content at affordable price. But, Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation, just announced today that they’ll end the production of the HD DVD players and recorders. Toshiba is targeting to end the production of the players and recorders by March 2008. And volume production of HD DVD disk drives for PCs and games will also end in the same time frame
However, Toshiba still leaves some promises to existing HD DVD users, such as they’re committed to stock HD DVD recording media for those who own HD DVD recorders (e.g those who own notebook with built-in HD DVD drives etc.). But, any future release of software or content in HD DVD will be none of Toshiba’s business!
