Olympus has got two durable and waterproof guys for its popular Stylus line. The two new models are the Stylus 1030 SW and the Stylus 850 SW. The SW in their product names means shockproof and waterproof. Olympus has got couple of waterproof cams in the past such as the 790 SW, 770 SW, and 720 SW, which all belong to the same Stylus line.
The new SW cameras are equipped with latest features, such as face detection technology, panoramic shooting mode, underwater shooting modes, ISO boost image stabilization, microSD or xD memory card compatibility, and a host of other features.
The specs at a glance for each are as follows:
- a 10.1 MP sensor, a 3.6x optical 28-102mm f/3.5-5 zoom lens
- a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD display.
- is claimed to be capable of withstanding falls from up to 6.6 feet and hold-up to 220 pounds of pressure without breaking.
- is claimed to be capable of shooting photos underwater up to a depth of 33 feet, and it will withstand temperatures of 14º F
- 8 MP sensor
- 3x optical 38-114mm f/3.5-5 zoom lens
- a 2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD display.
- able to withstand drops from 5 feet, temperatures of 14º F, and can be used underwater at depths of up to 10 feet
Apparently, the 850 SW is a cheaper model, as it’s less for couple of things such as having a slightly smaller display, less zoom and wide-angle capabilities, and islightly less durable as well compared to the 1020 SW
The 850 SW is expected to be available later this month at a price of about $300, with blue, pink, black, silver, and yellow for the color options. And the 1030 SW will be available only in March at a price of $400, and only available in silver.

oh man and I just bought my new Sony 10.1 Megapixel camera. If only i had seen this sooner. Have always liked the Sony brand but sometimes their products aftermarket service is the killer. My previous camera only lasted me 2 years and when i sent in it for repair the bill from Sony is higher than to purchase a new camera.
