These days cell phone has become an all-in-one gadget for various tasks other than just making calls, such as taking photos, reading emails, net surfing, reading e-Books, playing audio and video etc. Carrying these many functions, a cell phone will need to have much bigger screen size in order for the users to comfortably view all the contents. But the downside will be a cellphone that is too big to fit into your pocket.
The Dutch company, Polymer Vision, which spun out from Philips had showed off two years ago, a prototype of a cellphone that has a fold-away screen. When you aren’t using the phone to read all those media-rich content, you can have the screen folded away and only fold it out when you need it.
The cellphone is called Readius, which is the world’s first phone that has a screen that folds out. Now this phone is in production and will go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone and Amazon’s e-book reader Kindle when it hits stores in mid-2008.
The Readius is a cellphone that emphasizes on e-reading, that’s why it gets large display, long battery life of a e-reading, high-end connectivity in a cellphone form factor, that comfortably fits into your pocket.
