Britain unveiled on Monday, the fastest computer ever in the country, which is called HECToR. The HECToR will also join as one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, it’s equivalent the power of of 12,000 desktop PCs. HECToR can cope with 63 million calculations each second, which is possible for almost everything what scientists need for computing complex calculations involved in cosmology, super conductors, climate change and medical research etc.

With super high computing power, HECToR is definitely not something small in size. It’s as big as 60 wardrobes. The guy is housed in 60 wardrobe-sized cabinets in the University of Edinburgh’s advanced computing centre near the Scottish capital. And it also costs 113 million pound. Anyway, HECToR falls behind world’s biggest computer, Blue Gene/L, housed at California, which is used to study nuclear weapons without the need for underground testing.
