Benito,
This is just a second thought. If your son has Vonage it now includes calls to Spain for free. ID PhoneCard is another alternative for low cost international calling and requires no computer on either end. I don't know if you have dial around (10-10) services in Spain but we have them in the states and they are dirt cheap and also don't require computers.

Benito,
If you call Miami from Madrid using your computer there will be no charge. If your MJ number has a Miami area code then all your son has to do is dial that number to call you and there will be no charge. Your son will have to buy the device and set it up for you and then send it to you. MJ will not ship overseas. Once you plug it into your computer it will install itself. He will only be able to call you when your computer is turned on and connected to the internet.

Benito,
You can call your (sins?) in Miami for free and if you get a Miami area code, calling you would be a local call for them.

The magic jack works in most countries however, some countries, (eg. Korea) block the required ports because they do not allow most VOIP services. The reason being the phone companies were loosing money. I've been looking but haven't found a work around for this, if anybody knows one, great. But if the country hasn't outlawed VOIP, it will work. But the calls to landlines or cell phones is only free to north America. You can receive calls, however, from anywhere free to you. If you have, for instance, a 703 area code on your magic jack and somebody from the northern Virginia region calls you while your using magic jack in say England, its free to both of you. If somebody from California were to call you from a landline, it would cost them normal long distance charges, but if you called somebody in California, it wouldn't cost you a dime. A lot of soldiers are using this in Iraq right now and they say it works great. The biggest issues are with older versions of Mac OS and if you are running P2P software, (eg. Limewire, Utorrent, etc.) The P2P software kills your upload bandwidth which Magic Jack uses for you to talk out. But to find out if it works in your country, simply ask around, if Vonage works, it should work. I bought mine with the intent of going to Korea and using it, and got here only to find out the government outlawed Vonage and other similar services. :-( So good luck.

I have had M/J for over a year and i have never been happier with anything i have bought.
I have DSL and it is as clear as any land line phone.
I have had my phone go out twice because of telco trouble and M/J was still working.
That is not to say that i have not had it the other way around with my internet going down but that is my phone co. nothing to do with M/J. As far as nobody to answer and no phone number for M/J I HAVE NEVER NEEDED IT. At this price i look at it as FREE it is the most fantastic thing for the price i have ever bought.
I spend hours a day using it.
I had a guy call me on the land line phone selling a tool he makes and i told him about M/J and gave him a call using M/J to his other phone.
The first thing he said was if you want this tool ($120.00) it is yours free you just saved me $200.00 a month on calls to Canada.

I could get rid of my land line phone but i want to keep the number so i use M/J for all non local calling. It does everything even call forwarding.
Anybody that does not like it is doing something wrong or they do not have good internet speed.

Sajeewa,
It will work as long as you have a high speed internet connection however MJ will only ship to a USA address and will only give you a USA phone number.

Catherine,
It's very easy to dispute a charge on your credit card but it must be done within 60 days.

My credit card was charged for over ninety dollars before I even installed the magic jack. They sent me two and charged me for them although I only ordered one. Customer service chat told me to shut up and let them finish their answers (which were just the party line, not addressing my issues). I reported them to the Better Business Bureau this morning and received a call from Magic Jack customer service saying they would refund my money once they receive the magic jack in return. After reading these posts, I don't have a lot of faith in ever seeing my money again.

All of you will find that Magic Jack is unreliable.

Don't disconnect your old phone.

It always works. Majic Jack does not.

With customer care Majic Jack can and will fix any problems you may have.

Problem is; you'll be fixing while someone else is talking on their phone, not missing calls and wasting time on the internet, again, fixing the Majic Jack, over and over, daily.

Bottom line after 9 months with Majic Jack.

Majic Jack is not a reliable phone service and cannot be relied on, especially in the case of an emergency.

Good Luck to all.

I bought MagicJack through QVC for 37.95 plus S+H & tax = 43.74. I received it after only 4 days. When I tried to install it the first time I tried it without using the extender and it did not plug in all the way. After pugging it back in with the extender it would just freeze up becaus eit did not install complete;y the first time. I uninstaled it and completely deleted it from my PC and replugged it back in and it worked fine and gave me my number with 30 mins. I read some of you could not get other people to hear you. If you look at the top of the on scrteen display there is a menu button. In there you can increase the volumn for the mic and speaker phone. I bought a V-Tech 5.8 ghz phone with a 2nd remote phone for in the bedroom. I think everything works fine and have not had any problems. The only thing you cannot do is pick up both phones at the same time, one will cancle the other one out. I thought I would be able to have my daughter use one with me on the other just like a regular home phone. All and all it works really well. They even state that they are not sure if it will work with a fax machine but it might if you setup the settings on your fax. I just plugged my Lexmark 5495 in and it sent it without any problems. If you have problems just use common sense and figure it out, you know that the call centers are filled with a buch of people that have no clue how to actually work the stuff. I will try to check back to help answer anymore Q's.

I will try to check back to help answer anymore Q’s.

Rye,
This is just a second thought. Why are you going after Magic Jack when it is your phone company that is billing you? Why not contact the phone company that is billing you?
If you own a Ford that breaks down do you call Chevrolet to complain?

Rye,
My phone company doesn't even know I have Magic Jack. How can they bill you if you're not using their phone or phone line? If you're forwarding you Magic Jack calls to a cell phone then you will be billed for using the cell phone.
