Earthrace – human fat-powered boat, ready to sail across the globe and set new world speed record!

Fat-powered motorboat Earthrace
Suck the extra fat out of your body and give it to this guy, Peter Bethune. Let him build a boat that is powered by your body fat to let you sail across the globe in super high speed! It isn’t a joke, the guy mentioned here built an eco-boat, called Earthrace, powered by bio-diesel made of fat from his backside. He intends to set new world speed record for circumventing the globe in the boat next year. More pictures and video after the jump!

Earthrace eco-boat!
His extremely long journey will need 65,000 litres of biodiesel. So, he will need more volunteers to go for liposuction to get the fat out of their bodies for powering his boat. Besides human fat, he will also use vegetable oils and other animal fats during the 24,000-mile trip. This carbon/Kevlar-hulled speedboat sports two, 350kW Cummins engines that generate 1080hp.

Andrew - Inflatable Pontoon Boat Says:

I have to admit — I thought that this article was a joke at first until I watched the video and did a little investigating.

It’s too bad that someone made the comment in the video that the boat would actually produce less emissions if it was never built. I think that they may be missing the point.

In my opinion if someone is able to accomplish something like this and to travel by boat around the world with biodeisel only then it will definitely inspire others to make choices that are more environmentally friendly. Not just with boats but with other transportation choices.

Also there is a good chance that whatever is learned from this experiment can be used and applied to some of our other transportation needs. For instance many people talk about the benefits of solar power but ignore how impractical it is for applications like air travel, train and truck travel.

Now I don’t believe that a plane will ever use biodeisel, but I do believe that trucks might be a possibility.

    Just my thoughts.
