Samsung’s new graphic memory chip is the world’s fastest chip that boasts a data transfer rate of 6Gbps. The new chip is GDDR5, which is about three times faster than the GDDR3 found in today’s game consoles.
The new chip has few improvements such as more efficient power consumption and better speed. The new GDDR5 (Graphics double data rate) memory, operates at 1.5 volts, which shows about 20% improvement while compared to GDDR3.
With the super fast GDDR5, Samsung aims to spur software developers to deliver a new level of games that embrace more 3D reality and special effects. The new chips, GDDR5, have been sent to major graphical card manufacturers and expected to hit the market in mid of 2008.
