Amazon has announced the release of its e-book reader, Kindle and started selling it for a price of $399. Kindle weights at a total 10.3 ounces, which is less than a paperback book. And it’s capable of holding up to 200 e-books and expandable to 1,000 books by having a standard SD memory plugged into its memory slot.
Kindle is such a convenient device for book lovers, as digitized copy of books can be purchased and downloaded online and stored on Kindle. And you’ll only need to bring one light and portable device, which is Kindle for the few hundred books that you love wherever you go. It also saves you lots of space in your living space as you don’t need bookshelf anymore.
Kindle uses electronic ink to mimic paper. It’s not a computer screen, which should be much friendlier to human eyes. It has no backlight and the screen is currently available in back and white, although a prototype color display is being worked out but still not yet ready for the market.Kindle operates on battery. The battery life will last for several days or a week. A charger can juice up Kindle in about two hours when its battery runs dry.
Kindle also provides you an easy way of purchasing books online, which you can connect to Internet and buy e-books online directly on Kindle over EV-DO, without having to use a PC as a middle man for shopping, downloading or synchronizing e-books to Kindle. Kindle will also feature access to Wikipedia and a dictionary.
Besides, Amazon has also readied its “Kindle Store”, an online store for you to purchase e-books, which has now stocked more than 90,000 titles, including 101 of 112 current New York Times Best Sellers and new releases, which are all $9.99, unless marked otherwise.
