An Unix expert, Rik Farrow found that iPhone comes with a ROM older than 1.1.2 is easily hackable by using the H D Moore’s Metasploit, a popular platform for testing security systems. Farrow was able to take complete control of an iPhone and demonstrate the ability to eavesdrop on conversations, intercept voice mail and e-mail, and upload nefarious software programs. Through his test, there wasn’t a need to have physical access to the iPhone, as long as the iPhone is connected to a WiFi network, which is quite common to most users, as AT&T’s EDGE is kinda slow for surfing the Internet. But Moore also claims that the exploit is possible over EDGE network. 6-min video to show you after the jump!
The attack is simply easy, such as texting a targeted phone number with an SMS that contains a link to a malicious website, which will then download malicious code to the iPhone. And similarly, this also can be done by sending an email that has the link to a malicious website. Once the owner of the iPhone has clicked the link to accidentally execute the malicious code, the the hacker will be able to take the full control of the iPhone. Anyway, the latest patch has solved the Metasploit hack, but there are lots of iPhone out there with the older ROM version.

You sir, and “unix expert Rik Farrow” are idiots. How do you think the iphone was unlocked in the first place (well before this “news” spread like wildfire) ? But when you use for example http://jailbreakme.com to hack the iphone it also patches this security hole afterwards. And Apple addressed it with the recent 1.1.2. update. Please do not spread this thrash, and try not to turn DIGG into for idiots only.
