The newly announced Samsung’s 64GB SATA II SSD (Solid State Drive) is the fastest in the industry. The Samsung SSD can write data at 100 MB/s and read at 120 MB/s. Typical solid state drives in the market can perform in the range of 50-80 MB/s read/write rates only. This is obvious that the Samsung is very much ahead of all of them in speeds. Besides, the much faster speeds it also consumes less power, which is only around 50% of the power of current SSDs.
The new Samsung’s SSD is based on Samsung’s cutting-edge NAND technology, will come in two form factors, 1.8″ and 2.5″, and will be running on the SATA II standard. Samsung is aiming to push the SSD technology to be used in server storage and high-end PC. Up to now, SSD is only available for mobile devices in the market due to it consumes less power as no moving parts involved. Anyway, there is no pricing mentioned about the Samsung’s SSD yet.
