Shirt or gadgets that can convert other energies into electricity perhaps are not something new to us. Such as the Kineticel is the kind of battery that captures kinetic energy produced by moving things and stored for later use. And also, the Solar Bikini converts sunlight into electricity to power your iPod. Here comes another special shirt or vest that is being developed by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO that can convert kinetic energy produced by wearers while they’re moving around into electricity to power up your gadgets.
This special garment is called Flexible Integrated Energy Device. It looks ordinary, but equipped with extraordinary capabilities i.e capable of channeling vibrations in the shirt into electricity, which is then stored in batteries to power up your gadgets. The researchers claim that this special piece will have important applications for soldiers in the field, so they could just wear the “batteries” and no longer need to carry those heavy batteries, which are the major burdens to their agility in the battlefield. Anyway, CSIRO has just received funding of A$4.4 million to help bring this possibility a step closer. So, it shouldn’t be too far from now that we could see this special shirt in the market!
