Researchers: Graphical passwords for handheld devices, easier to remember and more secure
Human seems to have poor memory for text passwords or personal identification numbers. Some researchers have found a better way for us, human to better remember our passwords, i.e. to use the passwords in graphical mode instead of text mode. A more straightforward explanation is it will alllow you to draw a graphical image to unlock your cellphone or any handheld device instead of having to punch in text password or pin numbers to unlock it.

What do you think of it? A text password is easier or a graphical one by drawing an image is easier to remember? The scientists claim the latter is much easier to remember than the former. But, in terms of security a graphical password is definitely much more secure than a text password as it’s much harder to be copied by fraudsters.

Anyway, some researchers at at Newcastle University are researching on an application that could be installed on handheld devices to take graphical passwords. The “graphical passwords” are to be drawn over a background and the system remembers the number of “pen” strokes used, where the image was started and the order in which they were made. The app is known as BDAS – Background Draw a Secret, which makes it easier for the user to remember where to start drawing on the screen. Scientists claim that the human mind has better capacity for remembering images!

Wow. I wonder if we have to be dead accurate when drawing back the graphics..?

ya i do feel the same… drawing could be harder especially to draw back exactly the same image.. It might end up having to spend couple of hours just to get the same drawing for unlocking your phone :D maybe the scientists have a much better way to show us :)
