One of the most downloaded cellphone applications for the Japanese is the Anti-Groping Appli. This application is specially made for women to ward off those perverts with wandering hands in the Japan’s overly congested commuter trains.
The cellphones installed with this app will flash the messages such as “Did you just grope me? Shall we head to the police?”. The Anti-Groping Appli designed by games developer Takahashi was released in late 2005, has only recently reached no 7 in the week’s top 10 most downloaded apps, compiled by Web-based publisher Spicy Soft Corp.
The application flashes increasingly threatening messages in bold print on the phone’s screen to show to the offender: “Excuse me, did you just grope me?” “Groping is a crime,” and finally, “Shall we head to the police?”. You can have futher threat by pressing the “Anger” button, which is also accompanied by a warning chime. This is the easiest way for women to scare away perverts without attracting attention.
