Don’t you know that the nVidia graphic card that sits on the mobo of your computer could be used to crack the password logins of Windows Vista operating system? For geeks who have been involved in GPGPU programming, you should have already known that this technique is super powerful, which has been used for processes that need massively parallel processing power such as physics simulation, financial analysis etc.
But, this technique has also found itself a new use i.e used to crack password logins of operating system, especially Windows Vista. A crazy Russian based in Moscow, has created a password cracking technique that uses the same parallel processing concepts to speed up dictionary and brute force attacks on things like Windows Vista password logins. The graphic card used in this “mission-critical” process was the nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra, which costs only $800. According to nVidia, the 8800 chip is up to 25 times faster than a CPU, which is definitely fit for this task.
