Citizen displays lifesaver watch for Japanese - it's an Earthquake warning watch!
Another great watch that is surely loved by the Japanese. As we all know that Japan is prone to earthquake, it’s definitely handy that you can have a watch, which could be the most ubiquitous companion for you, that is able to warn you about earthquake and it is certainly a lifesaver for the Japanese.

Citizen, now has got a great concept watch for the Japanese, which will be an earthquake warning watch. Basically, the concept watch will be equipped with a EEW (Early Earthquake Warning) receiver. As a watch, this Seismic watch works no difference from any other timepiece. The specialty is its hour and minute hands will turn into a count down timer upon receiving a signal from the EEW, telling you how much time you have left to run away from the earthquake. Besides, the visual clue, of course, the watch also comes with both audible and vibration alarms that is definitely good for those visually impaired.

Currently, this watch is only made available in Japan. As it depends on the Japan’s Meteorological Office for the announcement of earthquake. The announcement is the crucial information that tells the arrival time, epicenter and magnitude of earthquakes based the collection information from over 1,000 stations over the country.

Citizen is still working on some improvement of this watch such as making use of public radio used by 1Seg broadcasting to receive EEW data that allows a wider coverage. Or the possibility of the signals to take different routes by the use of low-power radio waves or Bluetooth connectivity instead. This is definitely a great watch, once Citizen pushes it to the market, for sure they’ll be able to make a great income. Anyway, the current prototype is only in a men’s model. The reason is the size needs to be bigger than a regular watch due to the special earthquake detection system built-in. And there is a need to figure out how to size it down to suit the ladies. The targeted date for release is only in 2010 and will carry a price tag of $170.
