We’ve seen a few gadgets before that is powered by water. Of course, they are all the low-power consumption gadgets. Today, our cellphones are loaded with tons of functions. This is the main factor that contributes to cell phone’s juice-hungry characteristic and would be the major obstacle for getting our cells to be powered by water.
But, anyway, Samsung claims that they will be able to make it possible in a few years’ time i.e. a water-powered cellphone. Samsung has successfully developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that is powered by water only. When the water-powered cellphone is powered up, there will be some kind of reaction between water and metal in the handset, and this produces hydrogen gas for the fuel cell, which will then cause another reaction with oxygen in the air to produce power. This is different from the usual ways of other fuel cells take by producing hydrogen from methanol. The Samsung’s version needs no methanol but water only. Each micro-fuel cell can generate up to three watts of electricity, which is suitable for use in small, mobile devices for up to 10 hours.

[...] Water-powered gadgets are not new to us. Clock should need very little electricity to keep it ticking and the chemical reaction of electrons in water is sufficient to drive a clock. Here comes another water-powered clock which comes shaped like a soft drink can, which you can consider to add little uniqueness to your desk. [...]
