I was bit skeptical when I heard of the pee-powered battery was being worked out by some researchers back in March. But now, it seems like a complete product is out there in the market and you can get it in the stores in Japan.
The pee-powered batteries are called NoPoPo Aqua, which means Non-Pollution Power. It’s available both in AA and AAA forms. The batteries can be recharged with various fluids using the new development that forms electric power using liquid as a catalyst. The battery’s power level will get lower each time it’s recharged. So, it’s got a pretty short life cycle that allows it to last up to 3 to 5 recharges only. But the charge stored in it can be kept up to 10 years without leaking if unused, which is pretty handy for the use in some remote locations. Furthermore, the battery is evironmental friendly as it contains pee only but no harmful mercury or other harmful materials that you can freely dispose it anywhere.
