The world’s most expensive skull has found a buyer. An investment group offers $100 million for this diamond encrusted platinum skull. The skull, cast from a 35 year-old 18th century European man, retains the original teeth. It is embedded with 8,601 diamonds, including a huge pink diamond, worth more than eight million dollars, which is planted in the centre of its forehead. The total cost was reported as much as 15 million pounds. And now, the offer by the investment group lets the designer, Damien Hirst to make more than 60% of profit. So, he is definitely getting richer.

Incredible. He totally outdid what he achieved in June, when he became the most expensive living artist with Lullaby Spring which costs *only* about USD20 million.
I blogged about that at http://worldrec.info/2007/06/29/the-worlds-most-expensive-artwork-by-a-living-artist/
Now comes this USD100 million - that’s 5 times as much! And true to form, the theme is still about death.

Still a little off Pollock’s world record of USD142 million adjusted. Maybe the next piece of work… and quite some way off the legends eg, The Mona Lisa was insured in 1962 at USD670 million (adjusted dollars).
