Out-of-body experience can be induced by using Virtual Reality

Out-of-body experience induced by Virtual Reality
A few years ago, friends ever introduced me to attend some kind of classes for meditation. Which they claimed through meditation that you can bring the out-of-body experienece, which in return you will get better and more effective stress relief. The kind of out-of-body experience will get some kind off effect that your spirit is floating on top of your body and you will be able to see your own body just below you. But, of course, due to my lack of talent and patience, I didn’t manage to reach the stage that I could get myself out of body and I finally gave up after few months of practice.

Anyway, now scientists seem to have an easier way by means of virtual reality for you to get the kind of out-of-body experience. The device used in the experiment, made up of a set of virtualitity goggles, a camera and a stick, that was able to induce out-of-body experiences. The process involved getting the guinea pigs to gaze at an illusory image of themselves through the goggles and they were prodded with the stick and that had left them to feel that they’d left their own body. The guinea pigs said they felt as if they had been removed from their bodies

The research reveals that “the sense of having a body, of being in a bodily self,” is actually constructed from multiple sensory streams. By the way, what’s the purpose to have such a device to induce the kind of out-of-body experience? For providing gamers more exciting game play experience? Or for more effective way of relieving stress?
