Japanese chewable music player

A chewable music player? Yes, the Japanese researchers are working on a device that allows the clenching of your teeth to turn on your iPod. That’s what I call a chewable music player. Imagine that those Japanese commuters, everyday they have to get themselves stuffed in the extremely packed train, which simply doesn’t allow them to use their own hands to reach their iPod inside their pocket or bag, to turn it on. So, that is why the research team at Osaka University is keen to produce such a device that allows the Japanese commuters to activate the music player, which at least they’ll still be able to enjoy their favorite tunes while stuck in the extremely packed train during the long stuffy journey.

The device would eventually be a head gear that uses infrared sensors and a microcomputer to let people operate gadgets by clenching their teeth. The device is sensitive enough to react only to sustained one-second jaw clenches. So, it wouldn’t be confused with the other actions of your jaws or teeth. For the gum-chewers, they will still be able to enjoy their gum chewing as well as listening to their favorite tunes or picking up incoming calls.

The device is not limited to activating your iPod or music player only. It’s got pretty high potential to be commercialized later that allows it to be applicable as a bite-activated hands free for all sort of gadgets. Besides turning on iPod, there are other possibilities of use, such as to pick up incoming calls on your cell, to move wheelchairs or even to flip thru slides of powerpoint presentation or video clips.

I think it should work as a perfect pair while used together with a personal video viewer, so you can flip thru and review those porn clips that you’d spent the whole night to download but having no time to go thru it yet. But be sure, to keep an eye with the train’s movement so you won’t miss the station that you’re supposed to get down
