Water-powered clockI simply love gadgets that neither need external power source nor batteries. Here is a clock from ThinkGeek is one kind that I like. A clock that is powered by H2O aka water. Is it possible? Yes! It’s only some simple science to achieve this. I guess my Physics or Chemistry is not yet rusted. It’s possible to extract the electrons from water molecules that can form a stream of electrical current for providing power to the clock.

This is how it’s done on this Water-powered clock, where there is a internal converter that extracts the electrons from the water molecules. Just fill up the water reservoirs at its back with water, it can then display date and time for you for weeks, without needing you to spend any single cent on batteries.

Furthermore, its water reservoirs can double up as vases to hold your flowers. But, I think this concept is only applicable for small gadgets that consume little power only. As the kind of extracted electrons from water molecules wouldn’t be possible to form higher stream of current to power power-hungry gadgets. Unless, we’re talking about extra burdens here, a huge tank of water to be carried by tiny gadgets.

[...] We’ve seen a few gadgets before that is powered by water. Of course, they are all the low power consumption gadgets. Today, our cellphones are loaded with tons of functions. This is the main factor that contributes to cell phone’s juice-hungry characteristic and would be the major obstacle for getting our cells to be powered by water. [...]
