The need for better security for your cellphone? Now, the Japanese have brought to us much better security on your cellphone, which is a biometric solution that allows only your eyes to be scanned for unlocking your cellphone.
Biometic solution isn’t something new but it was pretty expensive to implement, but now the Japanese has made it cheap and can be deployed to any cell phones that need additional security. It’s in the form of software application, developed by OKI, Japan, dubbed as Iris Authentication Middleware, which allows your cellphone to recognize your iris.
The software is compatible to work on Symbian or Windows Mobile. In order to unlock your cell phone, you have to watch it closely and let it scan your iris to identify that it’s you. It works only on cellphone that comes with at least 1 megapixel camera. Scanning your iris is via the camera on your cellphone for unlocking it. Of course, you have to pre-register your eye with the software before using it. There is possibility for false positive, but at very low rate i.e. no more than one in 100,000 scans.
