High-speed 15Gbps wireless transfer aims for PAN

High-speed 15Gbps wireless transfer for PAN
This is great, researchers at Georgia Tech managed to achieve a wireless data transfer rate of 15Gbps. Of course, this great speed now has a limitation that the 15Gbps can be maintained only within 1 meter of distance. Once the distance increases, the speed falls drastically. You’ll get about 10GBps at 2m and 5Gbps at 3m. The high data transmission rate is achieved by using extremely high radio frequencies (60GHz). They’re now working hard to make this technology to hit the market within three years, which aims for PAN (Personal Area Network) that can be used among home multimedia equipments such as between speakers, DVD players or to other gadgets such as your cellphone, UPMC, and allows multimedia data to be wirelessly transfered in the peer-to-peer manner. The technology is dubbed multi-gigabit wireless and they’ve called for a new standard for it, which is called 802.15.3C and it’s also cross-compatible with FireWire and USB. This great research would most likely drive wired technology obsolete. But I think it would be pretty hard for some paranoids to accept it, due to the wireless nature was deemed harmful to human body by them.
