This is definitely a breakthrough technology. Three fishing buddies in Wales have successfully developed a box that is to be fixed underneath the car to replace the normal exhaust pipe. The box will be able to capture the carbon emission of the car, which can then be sent for processing to convert the captured gas to useful biofuel using genetically modified algae. The box is dubbed “Greenbox“, which is able to capture all the culprits of the global warming - carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. For a car that has it fixed, almost all the carbon emissions will be captured and leaving mostly water vapor be emitted.
The three fishing buddies stumbled across this great finding while experimenting with carbon dioxide to help boost algae growth for fish farming. Over the two years with about 130 tests carried out, they managed to achieve a capture rate between 85 and 95 percent. And the three now has formed a company, called Maes Anturio Limited and they’ve approached several local agencies for support and also approached car-makers Toyota Motor Corp of Japan and General Motors Corp. But the car-makers still remain silent. If this “Greenbox” goes materialized, the car owners who’ve got a “Greenbox” would need to replace it when they fill up their cars and send the “Greenbox” to a bioreactor to be emptied there. At the bioreactor, the captured gas from the box would be fed to algae, which would then be crushed to produce bio-fuel.
