Do you care about how much power that your household consumes a month or a day? I think we care about more the dollars and cents – how much we need to pay per month for the bill instead of the amount of energy each appliance consumes per month.
Anyway, DIY Kyoto Ltd has created a device, Wattson, which allows you to visualize how much energy that you use. Perhaps, you can then learn from the details to save some energy by leaving those unnecessary appliances and equipments off.
There is a little puzzle left behind that whether this device needs to be integrated into the existing wiring of your house or work place, in order for you to be able to gain the detailed information about the energy consumption. It seems like Wattson can detect any appliance in its off, on or standby states.
And from that on, it’ll work out the immediate and understandable effect, showing how much power that the appliance consumes and how much it costs to run. Wattson can be hooked up to your computer’s USB port for generating statistical reports and graphs for the power consumption for specific periods.
Buy online, limited edition only, £350.00, Bouf.com
Update: Wattson actually consists of two parts, which there is a sensor and a display. The sensor is to be attached to your meter. Installation is pretty simple, just by clipping around one of the two wires running between the meter and the fuse box. And the sensor will transmit the data to the display wirelessly. More details here. There is also non-limited edition that costs only half of the price of the limited. The limited edition could be the one mentioned on the producer website, which is a hand-made edition.
