So this is true and no joke? There were rumors around that Apple was likely to work out some cheaper versions of iPhone. It seems to be the rumors are back again or they’re no more rumors, which hint that Apple is really working on it. According to a Chinese media, the Chinese-language Commercial Times, that the Taiwanese company, Wintek, has gained the order of touch-screen panel for the second generation of iPhone. The report also says that Wintek has started to test production in small volumes with Apple. And they’re targeting to release the newer model likely in September and for a price of almost half of the current versions of iPhone. Which it will cost somewhere between $249 and $299. Some other Chinese media also reported that Quanta Computer likely to be chosen as the manufacturer for this second gen iPhone, but Quanta has denied it. There seems to have no mention about where the cheaper version of iPhone is to be marketed. Some other speculations still continue such as the JP Morgan is talking about possibility of iPhone nano and also another report claiming no possibility of cheaper iPhone or iPhone 3G is almost real etc. So, I think all these are still too early to confirm anything, still exhausting rumors floating around.
