SimpleSpark - a catalog for web applications
Since the term “web 2.0″ started getting hot a few years ago, there have been tons of the web 2.0 or 3.0 applications or portals mushroomed over the Internet. I’ve been deeply fascinated with all these web 2.0 or 3.0 kind of applications. Of course, the common ones such as Digg, del.icio.us, Flickr etc are always in my mind. But, to discover any new and useful one is not an easy task, which couple of hours a day needed to explore websites, forums and blogs etc. I think SimpleSpark, a web portal that serves as a catalog for web applications, has really done a good job.

SimpleSpark contains over 3,000 web applications registered in its database. All these web applications are tracked, categorized and associated with icons, screenshot, feeds, reviews and summaries. There are over 70 categories on SimpleSpark, which include Spreadsheets, Workspace & Wikis, Education, Fashion, Green Living and Family & Kids etc. It comes with pretty smart search engine, such as searching for “delicious” will show you the real del.icio.us that was in my mind and also another web application, Rouxbe, which is new to me, about the delicious recipe.

SimpleSpark allows free sign-up as a member for submitting any useful web applications that you’ve stumbled upon. Or, you as a developer and you’d like to tell the world a cool web app that you’ve developed. Perhaps, you’d be able to attract a VC from there. As a member, you’ll get tools to easily organize those web apps that you’ve found and share them among your friends. Sounds pretty much like another StumbleUpon or a combination of StumbleUpon and KillerStartUps.com that we’ve seen earlier on? But the submitted web apps to SimpleSpark is subject to approval. Meaning that those submitted web apps are really useful as rubbish has all been screened out. Other than this, it also lets you subscribe to RSS feeds that allow you to receive update such as new addition to its database for each category, top searches and categories etc. I’ll soon sign up as a member to find out more about it. Thanks, TC!

  1. Intel’s Cool Software site is for digging the next “Google” in the Internet!- by Gadget, shop online blog of TechChee.com Says:

[...] Intel seems to be pretty aggressive in looking for the next big thing, perhaps the next Google in the Internet cloud. With many thousands of web 2.0 software and applications have mushroomed over the Internet in recent years, Intel has decided to take one step ahead, and created a bookmarking site similar to KillerStartups.com or SimpleSpark.com, which allows public to submit and vote on new up-and-coming applications or companies. This bookmarking website is called Cool Software, which will be the central repository for Intel to predict who is the next Google, before it becomes Google, so their always ready investing arm, Intel Capital, can hit the jackpot at the most right time.
