Once, they were enemies, now they’ve become good friends. I haven’t been keeping myself up-to-date with the development of Linspire. In my memory, this company was once called Lindows when they first started and they got a lawsuit fired against them by the Redmond giant, Microsoft. Due to its name Lindows was too close to Windows, which was deemed to have misled the customers. If you’re new to Linspire, it’s basically an operating system that builds on top of a Linux core that offers numerous compatibilities with Windows application software. In another words, it offers much cheaper alternative to the Microsoft’s Windows. And they were compensated by Microsoft to change name to Linspire as per the result of the lawsuit.
The two now have formed an agreement, which they’re gonna provide better interoperability, technical collaboration that also includes intellectual property assurances between the two operating systems. And Microsoft claimed that the deal was simply to promote customer choice and to strengthen the bridge between the Microsoft® Windows® and Linux operating systems. So, it’s good news to you and me, which I really think all these operating systems makers shall settle their fight to provide better OS and software that will very much make our life easier.
