Samsung has been known as pretty aggressive to produce hard drives with high storage size and speed but low noise.
Now, they’ve hit the market with a 1TB drive that is much more advanced than any others available in the market. The Samsung’s SpinPoint F1 is the first one in the market that makes use of three platters to form a 1TB storage capacity. Whereas others such as Hitachi and Seagate use five and four platters to achieve a 1TB capacity respectively.
The Samsung’s SpinPoint F1 1TB hard drive consists of three 334GB platters. It’s equiped with 7200rpm motors. It comes with different models that support either a 16MB or 32MB cache and is designed for Serial ATA-300 interface with native command queuing. The average read seek time is 8.9ms and also an average latency of 4.17ms. This new high capacity hard drive is equiped with Samsung’s proprietary technologies for improved performance and lower noise. Well, the price and availability are still unclear. Anyway, it comes with lower capacity models such as 320GB, 500GB and 750GB.

Whereas the two, Hitachi and Seagate need five and four platters for their 1TB drive respectively. [...]
